Jane Birkin inspired collection design | Fashion I. 1st semester

When looking at iconic fashion from the 1960s, Jane Birkin's name is inevitable. Her clean yet sexy style, effortless elegance and bohemian vibe continue to inspire fashion designers. My task was to translate this iconic style into a wearable, conceptual garment.

While collecting, I realized that Birkin often chose mini skirts, shorts and white T-shirts, which were both playful and feminine, yet comfortable for everyday wear. These pieces provided the perfect basis for a modern reinterpretation.

My goal was to design a skirt that respects the 60s vibe – the A-line shape, the short length and the simple lines – but adapts to the needs of today’s fashion: wearable, practically variable, yet with character and visual interest. When designing the skirt, I also placed great emphasis on the details: the choice of material, the cut line and the small yet eye-catching elements all contribute to making the garment modern and retro-inspired at the same time.

This project gave me a great opportunity to reinterpret Birkin's style and show how classic inspiration can be brought to life in a modern, wearable form. The airy, playful spirit of the 60s not only evokes memories, but also becomes a contemporary fashion code that can be worn stylishly in everyday life.
